Here's an email I just sent to my friend in the States, April's dictated letter made me laugh!
Hey Rene,
we got our household shipment yesterday, place looks like a cardboard city right now. Will hopefully get internet and comp hooked up by weekend (we have been piggybacking on someone else's acct. pretty good service!!!)
It is great here, people LOVE Harry, old, young, all of them! We have had no problems apart from the other day when a man said to his family, move this way, that's a pitbull (an American, as if you didn't guess!). We are entering the rainy season now and then it will be summer heat apparently. The surf has been small so far and mostly it is calm, but I guess when typhoon season hits, that will change. The beaches vary, some are more corral-y, you can sit and sift thru for ages and find really nice little pieces. The water isn't super warm yet. Our place is cool with 2 big balconies, about the same size as our condo but a square shape...I'll send some pics when I get the place in order. April was excited to hear about Angel's cage and was asking how big it is?
Well, you will have fun doing Brownies, April misses her little troop, I am still looking into it out here. Say hi to everyone and good luck for Jacob's karate. Keep in touch...Over to April (bear in mind she was talking non stop and animated arm waving, she must think I am her secretary, doesn't she know I have never been able to touch type! Plus, I eliminated all the 'fill-ins' such as the ever popular 'and I was like, and like this, like...'! Plus, she hasn't been to Okuma, but she seems to like it!!!)
April says to Miranda: "I went to a park that was the most craziest park you've ever seen in 7 yrs, it had a concrete slide with 2 giraffes on it, there was a blue slide about 49 feet down, made out of xylophones. It just blew my head off, that park. And guess what, I live by a beach and at that beach there is a real pirate ship that was used by real sailors and there is a swing thing that I jump on all the time.
ohhh, I love Okinawa and I forgot to tell you about Okuma. It is sooo cool, it is a beach and the waters are crystal clear and sometime this year or next year we are going to go in a rainforest. The strawberries here are so, so, so, so, so delicious, except you have to eat them the day you get here as it is boiling here.
The summer is going to be so hot and awful, but except I get to go to the beach all the time and in my paddling pool and eat ice cream all the time, it's going to be awesome.
I have a new boyfriend. His name is Tyler and he is so, so, so, so, so cute, and he is so nice. He is 6 and he plays like he is 12. You have to know about my apartment, it is superfragalistic...you can go up and up and then you are on the roof and once we went up there and we did fireworks and once we saw fireworks.
OMG, I forgot to tell you, you have got to hear it. Yesterday, I went to school and you are not going to believe it, I had Eisa dancing, Japanese dancing and the most ferocious thing on them all was the mighty shiisa dog, it pretended to eat the shiisa dog trainer, it rose up and pretended to bite us and when the shiisas dog left I was screaming, 'I love you, shiisa dog' and I guess I was embarrassing the person next to me, Zak, he said 'shhhhhhh'.
I miss you a lot, Miranda. How's Angel? Oh right, Angel is good in her giant cage. Sooo, I miss you-hoo-hoo and I think about Ms. Perzyk too sometimes. I miss all of you so much, I miss you like a sister, seriously. And guess what, the teacher I have, her name is Ms. Pipkin and she is crazy with the homework, she gives us 18 pages on homework and we have to finish it in a week! I have to go, I have to finish my 18 pages of homework, bye Miranda, love you lots, see you in 3 years.
PS: my apartment is right across from my bus stop, just to let you know, I ride the bus to school and the bus monitor, she is crazy and yells into a microphone, I say to myself, 'OK, lady, you are yelling into a microphone!'"
OK, I think I have carpel tunnel syndrome.
